go for it

It all started with an innocent email from my brother...

He emailed to mention that there was a job opening in the accounting department where he works, and he told me that it would be really cool if I could work there and how much I would love the company. He said, no pressure, of course-he was just putting the information out there and saying that he would love living in the same town as us.

A few weeks went by and I didn't really think too much about it, until one night when I casually mentioned it to Ben, and he, much to my surprise, said "go for it!" So I immediately called Danny and we chatted about it, and the next day I was sending him my resume to forward on. Two weeks later I had an interview, one week later a second interview, and less than a month later we moved to Oklahoma City. I can honestly say (for both Ben and I) that we never even considered Oklahoma City as a place we would settle down. Not that we have anything against it, it just never even crossed our minds. I think we both assumed we would end up back in a bigger city at some point in the future. Also, the idea that our family would move for my career never even occurred to me. That thinking comes more from me because Ben has told me in the past that he would happily move if there was an opportunity for me in another city. I just never thought I would have the courage to break out of my comfort zone and attempt to do anything else.

We have now been here for two months and couldn't be happier. I have a great job for a great company that really takes care of its employees. My work challenges me every day (in a good way) which is what I was needing, I think. I have learned so much, and there is so much more to learn-my coworkers say you never stop learning new things in this job. Ben is back in the newspaper business-he is the news editor for the weekly newspapers in two different towns that are outside of OKC. In his words, he feels like he is home. He is a great journalist; I am so thankful that he has been given another opportunity to work in the field.

It was hard to leave our parents behind in KC, and we miss them so much. I loved living near them for several years. The good thing though, is that although we left family behind, we have the opportunity to live near other family that we have only seen a few times a year for the past 6 years. It has been great living near Danny, Megan, and sweet little Owen. We are fortunate in that we get to have good quality hang out time with them at least once a week. Usually we just relax at there house-which is fine with us. The boys love playing video games, and Megan and I have taken up sewing as a hobby. And Owen just sits there playing with his toys and being his adorable self.

Life is good. It feels good to be here and know we are going to be stay for a while. I would not change the past six years for anything-I love all the places we have lived and the adventures we have shared together. But at the same time there is a certain comfort in feeling settled. I look forward to all the new adventures that are in store for us.
