tagged!

I was tagged by red letter girl! I am supposed to list 7 random things about myself that you may not know. This will be tough, but here it goes:

  1. i have never dyed my hair. no highlights, nothing.
  2. i have regrets of not playing volleyball in high school, and have actually convinced myself that i would have been the star of the team had i played. maybe it's better that i didn't play, just to avoid the disappointment of not being the best.
  3. my photo was on the front page of the kansas city star when i was in 2nd grade. it went with an article about breakfast programs at elementary schools. it was an adorable shot of me trying to decide between apple and orange juice, so deep in thought that my lower lip was jutting out a bit. i guess it was a tough choice.
  4. i have never seen an episode of LOST.
  5. i started out as an english major in college, but i changed it because i hated my world literature class. i guess the thought of 2-3 more years of literature was unbearable.
  6. in 7th grade i had to give a speech and my topic was how to make macaroni and cheese. it was the worst speech ever, but fortunately everyone was too busy talking and laughing to pay attention to my meek little voice. i was glad. "talk amongst yourselves" is my speech giving motto.
  7. when i was in school and the teacher would pass back tests i would always try to see what everyone around me got on the test. it made me feel better about myself if i did better than everyone sitting around me. (i know, that really is horrible. i am a jerk)
OK...here's the rules:-

no turning back

i'm off in a few minutes to a bible study group at church. we have various groups (called movement groups) that meet throughout the week and everyone is encouraged to be a part of one.
i'm really nervous, but at the same time excited. we've been going to revolution for almost 4 months, but we really don't know anyone that well yet. it's really hard to get to know people when you only go on sunday mornings, which is what we've been doing. we say half-jokingly (the other half just frustrated) that we are sick of introducing ourselves to the same people every sunday.
so tonight we're going to a group. i think it will be okay, perhaps uncomfortable at first, but being in relationship with others was never meant to be easy.

happenings

  • i watched american idol tonight. it's funny how watching this show gives me the illusion that i can sing. i dance around with my spatula as a microphone thinking, "surely i could make the cut!" weird.
  • i received a letter from the community blood center with my blood type. it's o+. so all you a's, b's, ab's, and 0+'s out there: if you suffer an injury with massive blood loss...i got your back. (special thanks to megan for sharing her extensive knowledge of blood types with me)
  • works sucks at the moment. we had a lead in the department quit last thursday with no notice. thank you so much. fortunately we have a new person starting tomorrow, and a temp starting thursday. as much as it sucks to have people quit, it does present the opportunity for unlimited overtime ($$$!!!) so i can't complain too much. and as nice as this coworker was, i will not miss listening to her talk to herself. or the whistling. or the singing. or the times where she and another coworker would converse with one another with their voices sounding like they were mentally retarded. that was actually pretty offensive, and i am relieved that it is over. i wish i would have had the courage to tell them that they were being inappropriate.
  • ben and i have plans to go to the true/false film fest in columbia, mo in a few weeks. i'm really excited. i love weekend getaways, and it's been a while since we've gotten the chance (or had any money). the nice thing is that ben's grandparents live there, but they are away in arizona for the winter, so we have their house to stay in. partaayyy!! (just kidding, grandpa) it is always over a holiday when we are in columbia, so it will be cool to be in town when all the college students are around. usually it's dead when we are there. i'm looking forward to seeing some great films; perhaps if i am feeling ambitious i will attempt to review one or two on here.
  • it's cold.

first

before, nice t-shirt...way too big:
after, cute bag that makes a statement:

This turned out pretty well, for my first project. It was nice to get the practice on all the detail work, and with the zig zag stitch. And I'm glad to get practice on stuff I have around the house before I purchase any fabric. I enjoyed making it and hopefully I will actually use it. The fabric is a bit stretchy, so it won't hold too much before it gets saggy but it should still work fine as a purse.

saturday

lunch and bowling were really fun yesterday. it was great to see everyone, and as usual, i wish we all could've hung out longer. it's weird, we all live in the area, but it still feels like we're all so far away from each other. or maybe i just feel far away. it's just really hard to get 9 people together at one time, i'm amazed that we did it and only one person couldn't make it. (we missed you Anna!)

Anyways...here a few pics. I always plan to take more, but then I get shy and feel like I'm bothering people when I bring out the camera. Last time I went bowling (in Seattle) I had this same affliction so rachel took the camera for me and started taking pictures!
So anyways...the pics.

sarah found debbie's ball, shhh don't tell debbie!

natalie looking at her camera

nice form, cina! she beat me by 5 pins over the course of our 3 games...grrrr!!

lori and sarah, buddies since the mid 80's

cassie, cina, sarah, natalie, and amanda having ridiculous amounts of fun
the best part about the day? natalie came back to the table and told us the the lady up front said that we all looked like we were having so much fun, were we old friends or something? natalie said, yes we all went to high school together. awww...i'm glad that our fun was so apparent to those around us!
